DESCRIPTION:Join Jewish Voice for Peace - Twin Cities (JVP-TC) for the scre
ening of “Gaza Fights for Freedom\,” a film by the journalist\, author and
documentarist\, Abby Martin.\nThis film documents the Gaza protest moveme
nt\, known as the Great March of Return\, which began in 2018 and continue
d through last year\, during which the Israeli Defense Forces killed more
than 200 unarmed Palestinian civilians and injured tens of thousands more.
Through her collaboration with videographers and journalists on the groun
d in Gaza\, Martin was able to put together a compelling and important doc
umentary that mainstream media outlets relying on Israeli government sourc
es\, cannot provide. Throughout the film historical context and statistics
are given to allow the viewer to understand the situation in the tiny are
a of land known as the Gaza Strip.Light snacks and discussion will follow
the screening\, along with a chance to meet JVP members\, pick up literatu
re and purchase our awesome new t-shirts. https://www.mapm.org/events/cale

DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE.\nBetter Angels&nbsp\;is a national nonprofit tha
t has developed and pioneered concrete\, structured practices for dialogue
across political divides. Its leadership is half “red” and half “blue.” T
he First Universalist Peace Circle is hosting two Better Angels workshops
at church this winter/spring. The Conversation Skills workshop is a prereq
uisite for the Red/Blue workshop offered in April (having attended another
Better Angels skills workshop previously is also acceptable).\nThis works
hop is offered twice: choose either February 22 or March 14\nIn our curren
t polarized political environment\, many people avoid or even dread politi
cal conversations with friends or family members whose politics differ fro
m their own. They worry\, rightly so\, that any attempts at political disc
ussions will devolve into arguments and acrimony\, and result in hurt feel
ings or anger. In this interactive Better Angels workshop you will learn s
kills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences\, searc
h for common ground\, and affirm the importance of the relationship. Anyon
e interested in having better conversations with people on the other side
of the political aisle will benefit from this workshop.\nGoals\n\nTo learn
about the perspectives\, feelings\, and experiences of someone who differ
s from you politically\nTo have a sense of satisfaction about how you conv
eyed your own perspective\, feelings\, and experiences\nTo discover some c
 ommon ground\, if it’s there\n\nAfter a brief introduction and a discussio
n about what can go wrong in political discussions\, participants in a ski
lls workshop can expect to learn the following:\n\nTone setting skills\nLi
 stening skills\nSpeaking skills\nHandling difficult moments\n\nYou will pr
actice conversation skills in a pair with someone of your same political p
ersuasion—red or blue. “Reds” lean conservative/libertarian and tend to vo
te Republican. “Blues” lean liberal/progressive and tend to vote Democrati
 c. If you fall somewhere in the middle\, you can choose a side for purpose
s of practicing the skills. https://www.mapm.org/events/calendar/event/277

DESCRIPTION:In 1999\, WAMM’s End War Committee partnered with other local a
ctivist groups to initiate a weekly vigil on the Lake Street and Marshal A
venue bridge in St.Paul. Originally in response to the U.S. and NATO bombi
ngs in Yugoslavia\, the vigil has continued weekly with different U.S. san
ctions\, interventions\, and wars to protest. Every Wednesday for over 20
years—rain\, shine or below zero temps—activists in the Twin Cities have g
athered to stand in solidarity with all those affected by U.S. militarism
and to call for peace. https://www.mapm.org/events/calendar/event/282-vigi
